Interview Questions for the in-home childcare provider....suggestions welcome

·         How long have you been providing care?
·         Do you have first-aid/CPR and child development training?
·         Do you have a current state license or registration?
·         How many children do you care for? What are their ages or do you know what ages you will take?
·         Will you care for the same group of kids every day?
·         What will the hours be for drop-off and pick-up?
·         What is your hourly rate?
·         Will I be charged if I take a vacation or my child is sick?
·         What happens if you are ill?
·         If my child gets sick, would you give her medication?
·         Do you have any medical condition that could be worrisome?
·         Do you smoke?
·         Do you have references I can contact?
·         Would you mind if I ran a background check on you?
·         Do you plan on taking our baby out of the house for errands, appointments, etc.
·         How many vacation days/weeks does she take paid/ unpaid? How much notice will we have?
·         If my child was to accidentally ingest poison how would you handle the situation?
·         Worst case scenario the baby has been screaming for an hour. You have changed the diaper fed her and tried several was to calm her. Things are getting tense.. How would you handle the situation?

  1. Hmmm I think I'd also ask why they got into the field. Granted, I don't have kids but I think it's very telling to hear the answer to this question!
